The "D" Personality Type
Direct, Decisive, Driven

The DISC Behavioral model describes four basic patterns, none of which is better or worse than any of the others.

Very few people are purely one type. (Most of us are a combination of types.) This description is of someone who is almost completely a D. See if it describes you or someone you know. (Again, remember it describes an extreme form of a behavior that is often much more nuanced.)

If you are a D personality type, you are concerned about RESULTS..

  • You enjoy solving problems, getting things done, and achieving goals.
  • You want to be in charge. (You dislike being told what to do.
  • You set high standards for performance (your own and other people's).
  • You trust your ability to produce results.
  • You enjoy challenges and competition.
  • You are willing to take risks, challenge the status quo, and break the rules.
  • You make decisions quickly.
  • You are impatient with people who "waste time" by talking or planning, who you think are incompetent, or who resist change.
  • You don't mind telling people they're wrong. You value "telling it like it is." You can be blunt.
  • You bore easily.
  • You get angry quickly (and you get over it quickly).

You are energized by...

  • Working in a fast-paced, results oriented environment
  • Being in charge
  • Taking on new opportunities and challenges
  • Having the authority to determine how things are done
  • Being able to advance in your career

You lose energy when you...

  • Are closely supervised or micromanaged
  • Are questioned or overruled
  • Can't affect the outcome
  • Have limited access to resources
  • Perform routine, predictable tasks

At your best you can...

  • Get things done, either by yourself or as a group leader.
  • Be bold and adventurous.
  • Mobilize people to solve a problem, confront an enemy, or achieve a goal.

You can be a pioneer, a crusader, a leader.

When you are stressed out, you can...

  • Be blunt to the point of being rude. Like a tank, you run over people's feelings.
  • Be hypercritical, demanding, and short-tempered.
  • Make rash and reckless decisions.
  • Explode when you don't get your way.

At your worst, you can be a bully, a loud mouth, a tyrant.

To be your best...

  • Take time to gather information and think through the consequences of your decisions.
  • Instead of just announcing your decision, explain your reasoning.
  • Consult others, respect their input, and keep them informed.

Cultivate patience. See the value of cooperation.

How to RECOGNIZE a D personality type...

  • They tend to be active, extroverted, and always in a rush.
  • They speak loudly, interrupt others, and come right to the point in conversation.
  • They like to take charge of meetings and to set the agenda and make the rules.
  • They can be aggressive, blunt, and impatient.

How to WORK with a D personality type...

  • Be clear, specific, and to the point.
  • Be prepared. Present your requirements, objectives, and support material without wasting their time.
  • Involve them in developing a solution. Let them decide how to accomplish it and give them the freedom to do it by themselves.
  • Clarify the limits of their authority and available resources.
  • Don't back down when they attack. Take issue with the facts without confronting the person directly.

What NOT to do around a D personality type...

  • Chitchat. Try to develop a relationship. Approach them casually.
  • Waste their time.
  • Tell them what to do and expect them to do it.
  • Expect them to pick up on your feelings or unspoken agenda.

It has been a long time since I blogged. 2 weeks have gone since the last examination paper and once again, I didn’t manage to leave the examination hall feeling happy. Damn! Since it was long over, I don’t think it will be appropriate for me to add on any details for that. I should be looking forward but NOPE.. I’m not looking forward for the day of results released. What I’m looking forward is the fun and slack holiday aheah. =)

I’ve returned to my club training ever since the exam ended. Training is always fun with familiar faces around. This time, I have chosen to play for the second team instead for the first team. Although the teams are not going to be as strong as those I have met previously, I will still play my very best when I’m on court. I’m not going to let any form of complacency set in. Being apart from the usual teammates makes me feel a little weird at times. Usually when I’m in some kind of “trouble” on court or when things don’t work out as well, that is always Jin quan who I can depend on. But this time, all I have is myself. Perhaps my trust to this team is not there yet. The feeling that “I’m the more senior player” feeling is always there and I just feel that the rest are dependent on me this time. Yucks.. I hate that feeling. Just a couple more weeks before the league starts, so I just hope that everyone can be there for training. By then, everyone should be well prepared for the competition, be it fitness, individual skill, teamwork and mindset.

I’ve met up with the uni pals twice during this holiday as well. First is the mahjong session at Shawn place then is the dinner cum night activity. The dinner was great at Shokudo @ Raffles City Shopping Centre. The whole environment was quite good but I think they should have a better choice in terms of the music played for it doesn’t really fit in. Overall the food was okie, but I supposed it’s usually the company that is the most important. My poor boy hasn’t gotten the chance to visit the place and while we were enjoying ourselves that night, he was there in Ubin, suffering. Here are some of the photos we took that night.

The food

& the people!!

After dinner, we went to the MindCafe @ Boat Quay. It was my first visit there and I was quite surprised by the store of board games they had. Frankly speaking, I wasn’t the kind of people who enjoy board games but I had real fun that night. There were many games that I haven played or rather seen before. Some of the games we played include Ugly Dolls, BONES!!, the concentration game( this has nth to do with any of the board games there), the reflex and the animal sounding games ( both I named it myself cos I have forgotten their actually names). Here are some of the photos we took that night.

Enough of the fun, then it is the job hunting again. Recuitexpress is always the agency that we go to although seriously I don’t think the pay is good. Oh well, at least there is some effort made by me to go around and look for a job. After all the troubles about the waste company issue and offending one of the recruitment consultants, I have landed in a job as a recruitment consultant in Recruitexpress in the Healthcare divison. Hah.. So that made me a colleague with ehem. The interview as a consultant was rather weird as I recount. The first question has already left me dumb-founded. “What are the objectives of finding a job right now for you??” I wasn’t expecting this kind of question so I told her plainly that I haven really thought of that. Then she started telling me her objectives when she was my age then. This provided me with a little clue as in what I have to say. Then I told her it wasn’t really for the money since I do have tuition assignment on hand so it was more of like to keep me occupied. I supposed this answer resulted in my “rather pathetic” pay. “What are the 3 words that your friends often described you?” So I thought to myself, my friends always say that I’m talkative, I’m loud, I don’t have a image for I’m always wearing what I call the relax attire to school. There is no way I’m going to tell that consultant this. But for the 3 words that I said, heex.. confidential. “What are the 3 words you used to describe yourself” sorry, confidential again. Then I was being told to do a personality test (D.I.S.C) and they will base on that to determine if I’m suitable for the job. So it turned out that I have the D character in me. More about the personality test in the next blog entry. Right now, all I hope is that this job will turn out to be fine. Challenging and competitive it may be, just wish that I'm up to this challenge.
